Imagine a desert landscape, utterly simple, sand, sky and the line of the horizon dividing them.
In this landscape, there is a Cube. Visualize it, describe it. Where is it? What is it made of? What size is it?
In this scene, there is also a Ladder. Where is it? What does it look like? What is its size and position?
In the desert, there is also a Horse. What kind of horse is it? What color? Where is it in relation to the Cube and the Ladder? What is it doing?
Somewhere in this landscape, there is a Storm. Describe it. How is it affecting—or not affecting—the Horse, the Ladder, the Cube...?
Finally, in this desert, there are Flowers. How many? How big? What color? What kind? Where are they in relation to the Cube, the Ladder, the Horse, and the Storm?
If you want to play along, answer the questions for yourself first before looking behind the cut at my answers and the key.
The cube is dead in the middle of the barren landscape, featureless sand stretching for miles in every direction. It's about 50 feet high, and made of black obsidian.
The ladder is leaning against the cube in the middle of the North face, stretching about halfway up the cube. It's a simple aluminum extension ladder.
A large black warhorse gallops along the horizon, maybe a few miles South of the cube so that one can see it passing behind the cube while being able to see the ladder.
Large black thunderclouds appear off to the West. They are far off, but approaching slowly.
To the East there are mountains, the foothills of which are covered in brilliant red roses. They are several miles away. They are about the same distance from the cube as the storm is, but in the opposite direction.
Here is the key:
The Cube is you.
The Ladder is your friends.
The Horse is your lover.
The Storm is trouble.
The Flowers are children.
Very interesting, I will have to think about it.
