masque is dead.

"masque12" was my very first "handle" on the internet. It was also my first email address (which I still have, I just don't use it) and due to the fact that most of my interaction with other magical people was online, it became a magical name of sorts, masque that is (not capitalized), the 12 was simply part of the handle. It initially came from a poem I wrote in high school called masquerade, having something to do with the bullshit personas people put on to protect themselves. It's been handy for a while, and there's lots of people who only know me by that name.

Tonight I was Recognized to the second degree in the Temple of Set. As part of the working that facilitated that, I have discarded masque as a magical name and taken on a new one. Unlike the name masque which was used everywhere, this name will be only used privately within a magical context, in keeping with the ancient tradition that when you know someone's True Name you can have power over them. I don't necessarily buy into that whole scenario, but it will be an interesting experiment on my part, sort of a 4th Power of the Sphinx kinda thing.

masque will likely still be used as a handle and in the name of this journal, simply for convenience, as too many people are familiar with that name, but it no longer applies magically.

I have many projects that I will be initiating in the future, now that the Recognition process is complete. It ought to be fun.
