At some point within the next 2 weeks (depending on when my loan money gets deposited) I will be the owner of a black 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid. Anyone want to buy a used red 2000 Nissan Frontier cheap? It needs some body work, and has an intermittent A/C problem, but still runs just fine, engine wise.

Body work: are you talking cosmetic or structural? Dinged up side panels etc don't bother me, I'm considering a workhorse pickup that can hold more than three people, and shmutzik enough to not be shiny theft bait.

AC isn't that important to me, as long as it isn't the crazy Volvo-like situation where the AC compressor also runs the power steering.

And finally, how much are you asking? :) I'd have to drive, bus, train or cheap-fly to wherever you are, and drive it back - which sounds like fun to me. We're moving to Nevada, rural, and etc.

There's a few minor dents here and there, with a rather large one on the left side. The only structural body work problem is that I was rear ended years ago, and while visually it only bent the bumper down slightly, it was enough that I can't get the rod to go in the hole that allows me to crank the spare back up into the proper position. So the spare sits in the bed, with a bit of rust on it. There is a black vinyl bedcover, I just don't have it in place at the moment, as it doesn't allow lowering of the tailgate, and I've been hauling stuff around.

The A/C doesn't control the power steering, it just cuts out or doesn't start up sometimes when it's hot out, which sucks here in Houston.

Aside from those things, the only problem is that there is a rip in the driver's seat upholstery, and the ceiling upholstery is falling down a bit.

It is a 4 cylinder King Cab (2 drop down jump seats behind the driver's and passenger seats, and the Blue Book on it is $2500 in fair condition. For someone willing to take it off my hands quickly (as soon as I get the new car), I'd probably start my asking price at $2000, and then see what I could get haggled down to. I'm planning on getting it appraised at CarMax Friday to see how much they'll give me for a trade in, but I don't expect much, and if someone else wants to take it off my hands, I'd be happy to sell it.

Technically, it seats 5, with 3 in the front, and 2 in the back, but that's a rather tight fit. As long as the people in the front are relatively short (I'm 6', so shorter than that) the two in the back jump seats can be relatively comfortable, although not luxurious by any means.

4 cylinder means decent on gas mileage... if you get a good deal on it go for it (we can't move 'til late June at the earliest) but if it's still sitting around collecting dust I'll keep you on the short list.

Can you find a photo of a similar model on-line? Everything I've read says that it's a decent work-horse if a bit short in the bed. (Quote: Too short for a motorcycle, but fits an ATV handily.)

I can do better than that. I'll take a bunch of pics of it with my phone and email them to you. You can email me at nyarlathotep23 at gmail dot com, and I'll reply to you. I'm at work right now and it's starting to rain, but I'll get it done in the next few days.

This is basically what it looked like new, except I have factory wheels, this one doesn't:

Sweet, I am looking for something more like a real truck and less like a SUV with a bed. Houston? I'll see what a drive that distance looks like on Google Maps, but like I said can't do it for at least a couple months.

Dang, that looks *far.* And in the summer, through Hot America.

It would be fun with one of the kids, and I'd get to see stuff - but it would cost me an additional 60 or so gallons of gas. Like I said, if you get a deal to sell, go for it. You've had it for a few years it sounds like, would you recommend that make/model to someone who was looking for a similar truck?

Yeah, I bought it new in late 2000, as they were clearing them out to make room for the new body style in 2001. It's definitely a good truck, and I'd recommend one, especially if one goes a little fancier than I did. Mine has hand crank windows, manual locks, no tilt steering, and no cruise control. It'd be a much better distance vehicle with those things, but I've managed without them, and it's served me well.

Well, I'll get it appraised as a trade-in on Friday. If they'll give me something decent, I'll take it, I could use the cost offset for the new car. But if they offer a grand or less, I'll just hold on to it. I'll still send you the pics this week if you email me, and if you don't like how it looks now (I'll cover all the problem areas) just let me know, and I'll take what I can get, or donate it. But if you like it, and can offer better than the trade in, I suppose I can wait until June or so. That's less than 2 months away, after all.
